Get the Verified seller badge
Check your photo ID with Stripe once, and buyers see that you're a real person on everything you post. It takes about two minutes and costs $2.99, one time. It's free on the Business plan.
Your listing cards get this mark: Verified seller
- Verified seller
Why it helps
- A Verified seller mark on every listing card, on each listing page and on your seller page.
- Buyers can search for verified sellers only, and browse their newest listings on one page.
- It answers the first question a careful buyer has before driving across town: is this a real person?
- One time. It doesn't expire and there's nothing to renew.
How the check works
- Pay $2.99 on Stripe's checkout page. Business plan accounts skip this step.
- Stripe asks for a photo of your driver's license, passport or state ID card, taken with your camera right then. Old photos and scans can't be uploaded.
- Then a selfie, which Stripe matches to the photo on your ID. On a computer without a camera, Stripe shows a code so you can finish on your phone.
- Most checks finish within a minute or two. The badge goes on your account as soon as Stripe says it passed.
Your ID stays with Stripe
Stripe Identity runs the check, the same company that handles card payments here. Northern List never receives your ID photo, your selfie or anything printed on the ID: not your address, birth date or license number. We don't keep a copy because we never get one.
All we store is that the check passed, the date, and Stripe's reference number for it. The badge doesn't show your legal name or anything else from the ID.
Stripe keeps the images under its privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
If the check doesn't pass
Glare, blurry photos and a hat in the selfie are the usual reasons. You can try again at no extra charge. If it still hasn't passed after 5 tries, email [email protected] and a person will look into it.
What the badges mean
- Verified seller
- This account passed Stripe's photo ID and selfie check, so a real person stands behind it. It isn't a promise about the item or the deal: still meet somewhere public and see the thing before you pay. Our safety tips cover the rest.
- Verified business
- We've confirmed this is a real business: a dealer, landlord, contractor or shop. We look for things like an Alaska business license and a storefront or website that checks out. To ask for it, email [email protected] from the address on your account.
- Founding member
- One of the first 1,000 people to join Northern List and confirm their email. The number is the order they did it in. It says how long someone has been around, not that they've been checked.
We can take a badge off an account that breaks the posting rules.
